HELPING FARMERS CUT COSTS
Each 48 page issue contains in excess of 40 workshop projects, built by by farmers to save themselves time and money. All of these are described with sufficient accuracy for the reader to have a really good idea
- the main financial benefits
- how the machine functions
- the principle design features
- how it was constructed
The pictures show over views and close ups of the features of greatest importance.
Getting Hi-Res computer pictures you can view
Nearly all the pictures we use are from digital cameras, many from my own Nikon which has a very high definition. Viewed on a computer these images can be enlarged to show much greater detail than is possible on the page of the printed magazine. Most stories also have a few spare pictures.
Subscribers can get all these for a particular machine for a modest cost. They remain copyright to MIDO Publications and cannot be used for any purpose other than to help in the workshop. Becoming a contributor "Contacting me by email or on my mobile is easiest," says Mike Donovan, "and I will do all the rest. I travel across the country regularly, and am always delighted to drop in and see farmers who have made and adapted equipment."
Mike takes the photos, notes the details and does the writing. It means that contributors are not involved in any work other than meeting, greeting and explaining.
Using the magazine as an encyclopaedia There are 4,000 and more ideas published in all the back issues, yet the computerised index is remarkably good at pin-pointing individual ones. The Index is a PDF file which you download, and then use the search facility. There are a number of Indexes which provide the chance to browse article titles in full on various subjects. Every article in included in the Complete Index, which is useful to use when the subject overlaps a number of farming sectors.

Improving farm safety Farm safety involves not only the operators - farmers, workers and contractors, but, as we have seen so tragically this Christmas, farming families as well. Few businesses involve families the way that farming does. It is a source of strength, but creates problems such as children’s safety. These selected articles are all concerned with improving child safety and cementing relationships in farming families. All farm parents with young children should read the article Creating a Safe Play Area on your Farm in Farm IDEAS Vol 14 Issue 4. Measures such as this reducing risk and anxiety. The Farm Children and Farm Life Index provides a link to over 50 articles, featuring diverse family ideas such as home made toys (small and very large!) and play areas, home built barbecues, swimming pools and more.
